yeti crab

yeti crabThe yeti crab is a crustacean that lives in the South Pacific Ocean. Its defining characteristic is its silky, blonde hair covering its legs and claws.
Yeti crabs, or yeti lobsters, are thought to be blind because they lack pigment in their eyes. Their furry legs contain filamentous bacteria, which the crab uses to detoxify the poisonous minerals from the water that comes from the hydrothermal vents near their habitat on the ocean floor.

Due to the fact that the yeti crab is a recent find (they were first discovered from a submarine dive in 2005), there is very little information on these animals. The family Kiwaidae was made specifically for the yeti crab, because they did not fit into any existing family.
Diet: It is believed to eat shrimp and algae
There is no breeding information known as of yet.
